I Am an advocate

AWAKE strives to make change at the individual level through our I Am an Advocate educational program. We use an evidence-based curriculum to equip youth with the tools to be advocates for themselves and change-makers in their communities. The curriculum aims to support participants in the development of interpersonal and self-care skills, sociopolitical consciousness, understandings of leadership, and communication and action planning skills essential to advocacy work. This education focusing on self-advocacy and community action is transformative by prioritizing a segment of the population – young people – who have historically been underestimated for their ability to lead movements and create change. We tailor our programming to the goals of partner organizations which has allowed us to serve hundreds of women and students across Nashville.
